WHY CAMBIUM?
How to name a company with the mission to sequester CO₂ and restore the balance of our atmosphere? How can we emphasize our commitment to nature-based solutions as the most effective way to achieve this goal?
Unlike animals, trees never stop growing. Their Cambium, the layer of non-specialized cells underneath the bark, allows trees to grow in volume by generating new tissues such as the xylem and the phloem. Cambium is therefore the main tissue responsible for carbon sequestration, as the specialized cells that derive from it consolidate the sugars that were created during photosynthesis, transforming them into lignin and cellulose, biopolymers which fix and store the carbon that trees removal from the CO₂ in the atmosphere.
In addition to its botanical meaning, the Latin etymology of Cambium means change.

WHERE DO WE OPERATE?
We began our journey in South America, where we have a deep understanding of the land, nature, trees, and society.
Additionally, Central and South America are home to a significant portion of the planet’s afforestation and reforestation potential. Therefore, we believe that investments should be focused primarily where they can yield the fastest results against the climate emergency that we are facing.
However, while we started where we feel comfortable and we see high potential for positive impact, our platform and our ambition are as global as the challenge we face.
